Hm, there are so many good places in N.Y city. But I think for steak it's Smith & Wollensky.

There is a great new place in NYC, on Allen & Delancey called Sweet & Lowdown. Its small, with a great wine selection.

I like the name. Is it mostly drinks or is it also a restaurant?

Its all beer and wine. But, their baked brie is fantastic.

Ok, I'm going to try it out. Also, I'm not sure if you're familiar with Brooklyn but in Carroll Gardens there's a wine bar called The Jake Walk, it offers a good Cheese fondue for two ...if you want to eat bits of apple dipped in warm cheese before the winter over, that's a nice place to go.
Carroll Gardens is about 2-3 stops away from the city (depending what train you take,) and its full little Brooklyn treasures.

I live in St. Louis so I don't know how interested anyone will be in my comments, but I am a major foodie and love to talk about food and wine. My daughter lives on the upper east side so when I come to visit I'll definitely use your ideas!

Has any one of you tried the Greek cuisine? Greek cuisine is a light, down to earth cuisine, using mostly vegetables, fine herbs, olive oil and grains and to much lesser degree meat, cheese and butter. There are Greek gourmet fine restaurants all over the world. Just ask and maybe I will be able to make suggestions.
