"MAKE TO STICK" by Chip and Dan Heath. It's a book with a memorable cover, bright orange with a strip of silver duct tape across the front.

In the lingo of the Heath bros, it's sticky. I am in love with this book, it's all about how to tell stories with impact, (stories that stick) how to use stories instead of elevator pitches and how your employees and customers can better understand (and love) your business. And they walk the talk, the book is one story after another. Required reading for all those folks in your organization who love slogans, jargon and pitches. These two are good:

The Blue Sweater – Jacqueline Novogratz (founder of Acumen Fund) – microfinance works best when you build relationships and don’t try to dictate solutions from the top down. Americans try to change everything at once and don’t realize that it takes time to build relationships, persuade people, and bring about long-lasting, sustainable change and not just one-shot projects that often fail.

-Consumers are people too! Take care of where they look, when they get bored, keep their hands free, park the husbands when the wives shop, etc. and you can raise sales with “environmental” and anthropological people-watching principles.
